Summer Housing and Internship Program (SHIP)
The Summer Housing and Internship Program (SHIP) is a twelve-week program from May to August that offers an alternative to recipients of the New Jersey Foster Care (NJFC) scholarship who lack the financial, family and social connections to secure safe and stable housing in the summer months. Ten Project MYSELF students between the ages of 18 and 21 are given the opportunity to receive quality housing and paid internship positions throughout the summer months. SHIP also offers weekly workshops and recreational activities for its participants.
Each member is assigned a SHIP Coach who is available to mentor, offer support and guide through program requirements, work to pursue personal goals, and address any issues or concerns.
The main objectives of SHIP are to:
• Provide stable housing
• Increase emotional resiliency and financial literacy
• Improve academic functioning
• Develop job readiness
• Financial Literacy
• Encourage community, adult, and peer relationships
SHIP provides:
• Career-related paid internship experiences
• Life skills workshops
• Social groups
• Intensive care management
• Cultural learning opportunities
