Speakers Bureau
Project
MYSELF also coordinates a Speakers Bureau, which provides paid training
opportunities to young people enrolled in Project MYSELF. Students
participate in a train-the-trainer workshop and are trained in public
speaking, leadership skills and training skills.
Students deliver a presentation entitled
"Higher Education Options for Youth" for aging out youth audiences in
after-care, residential and child welfare settings. Audiences include
youth and the social service professionals who work with them.
The goal is to raise awareness of
post-secondary education options for youth aging out of foster care,
while, simultaneously, providing paid internships that will help the
student presenters develop leadership and job-readiness skills making
them more marketable and prepared for the workforce.
