Life Skills and Aftercare Programs
Life skills programs provide adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 with training necessary for their successful transition from placement to independence. Aftercare programs provide similar services to youth, ages 18 to 21

Transitional Living and Supportive Housing Programs
Transitional Living Programs (TLPs) and Supportive Housing Programs provide supervised and supportive living services for adolescents.

Wraparound Funds
Wraparound is flexible funding available for those adolescents in an independent living skills, aftercare, or transitional living program.

Multiple uses: security deposits, up to four months rent, purchase linens, furniture, driving lessons, etc. 
Higher Education
The Department of Children and Families contracts with Foster and Adoptive Family Services to administer the New Jersey Foster Care Scholars Program.

Healthcare
The Medicaid Extension for Young Adults (MEYA) provides Medicaid coverage for young adults who were in foster care or another DYFS-paid placement at age 18.

Addiction Services
The Division of Addiction Services (DAS) has developed services targeted to youth in New Jersey's child welfare system. These programs enable youth to receive treatment for their addictions in a recovery-oriented environment that treats each young person with dignity and respect. Most of these programs are for adolescents age 13 to 17.

Sometimes specific concerns arise in the lives of adolescents under our care. These concerns may be poorly served in standard housing or service programs. Specialized services and programs exist that may be utilized when standard options are not appropriate.

Youth Advocacy
The Department of Children and Families, Office of Adolescent Practice and Permanency, created the Youth Advisory Boards (YABs) in an effort to partner with youth to develop better services for aging-out youth. The YABs provide a platform for youth to express their concerns and provide input into the design and implementation of services.
